Our History
The Fort Collins Conservation District grew out of the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression of the 1930's. Originally called the Fort Collins Soil Conservation Districts, we formed to bring landowners together to protect against widespread soil erosion. Since then, our mission has evolved to include conservation of all natural resources, such as water, land, air, vegetation, and wildlife.
The Fort Collins Conservation District (FCCD), one of 76 conservation districts in Colorado, is a local unit of state government that provides a voice on natural resource issues, and collaborates with private landowners, residential communities, and local, state and federal government entities to conserve natural resources in Larimer County. FCCD was established in 1945 and is supervised by a board of volunteer local landowners. The District works to maintain and improve water, soil, and wildlife resources by providing technical, educational, and financial resources to support conservation practices. |
